Uganda has been invited to send a women's team for the United Arab Emirates International T20 Cricket Cup.

"We are glad that our team has been invited for this event. We shall use the tournament to prepare our team ahead of the World Cup T20 qualifiers that start next year," Justine Ligyalingi, the CEO Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) told URN on Monday.


Ligyalingi said Uganda is among the teams invited by the Emirates Cricket Board for the tournament set to run from December 12-21 in the United Arab Emirates. The Matches will be played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium  and the Ajman Cricket Club ground.


The organisers also communicated that besides Uganda, the other nations that will take part in the invitational tournament include; Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Zimbabwe and the hosts United Arab Emirates.


Uganda's selection committee has gone ahead to summon 30 players who will start preparations ahead of the tournament. Ligyalingi said they will reduce the team to 14 players who will eventually make the final team. Among some of the start players summoned include; Barbara Mukankusi and Grace Mackenzie Ayato.
