Woman Arrested for Plotting to Poison Community Water Source

Police in Kibaale district is holding a 28 year-old woman for allegedly plotting to poison a community water source in Nalweyo town.
 
The suspect identified as Enid Rukundo, a resident of Nalweyo Trading center Kibaale district was arrested by residents on Wednesdayafter a tip off on how she was plotting to spill dangerous poison in a community borehole.  The borehole serves more than 500 residents.
 
Rukundo’s move was reportedly detected by Saazi Peter, an area leader who found her in possession of powdered Phil dun poison measuring to about one kilogram in a polyethylene paper.
 
One source that participated in arresting the suspect said that Rukundo had always threatened to harm residents who were accusing her of practicing witch craft.
 
In June this year, she was accused of placing poison in pork at one of the pork joints in the same trading center but was quickly detected and people were barred from consuming the meat.
 
In her statement, Rukundo narrated that she had bought the poison to kill monkeys in her garden although residents say Rukundo does now own any garden in the area.
 
Charles Okello the officer in charge Kakumiro police station where the suspect has been transferred for safe custody on Thursdaymorning told Journalists that police has instituted a team of detectives to thoroughly investigate the matter. He adds that the suspect is being held on charges of threatening violence.
