Polling officials in Karangura Sub County in Kabarole are stuck with voting materials as voters in the area have not shown up to cast their votes because of the difficult terrain.
Karangura Sub County has three polling stations. They are Nyamisi, Kalangura "A" and Karangura "B" polling stations. David Mugyenyi, a polling official at Nyamisi polling station says that they opened for voting at 6:45am.
However by 11:30 am only one voter Damalie Mbabu had cast her vote. Mbabu explains that the many residents are reluctant to come for voting because the polling stations are located about 15 Kilo meters from their homes.
She says that she started trekking to the polling station at 7 am and arrived at 9:30am.
She says that they have repeatedly asked Electoral Commission to transfer the polling station closer to their homes in vain.
Mbabu appeals to Electoral Commission to extend the voting deadline from 5pm to 7pm to allow residents cast their votes. But David Mugyenyi, the presiding official says that they will close immediately it clocks 5 pm.
Our reporter who visited the polling stations this morning says that Karangura sub county is found in a mountainous area, adding that there is no public transport means.
