The United States of America Cricket team defeated Uganda in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under 19 World Cup Qualifier tie on Thursday.

Uganda battled first to put on 167/9 (44.2 overs) at the Royal Selngor Club in Kuala Lumper, Malaysia, but the USA team returned strongly to win by 6 wickets with 58 balls remaining.


With Sagar Patel picking a game high 66 runs and Tohidul Islam 50 the USA team put on 168/4 (40.2 overs). Uganda's Kenneth Waisa picked 38 runs, while John Gabula and Zephania Arinaitwe had 37 and 18 respectively.


In the other game played Nepal beat Papua New Guinea by 9 wickets with 245 balls remaining. Papua New Guinea collected 48 runs (28.2 overs), while Nepal battled to put on 50/1 (9.1 overs). Coach Henry Oketcho's team will now try to come all out and get a win against Ireland on Friday.


Five nations Uganda, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, USA and Ireland are taking part in the competition which will see one team take up the slot to qualify for the ICC Youth World Cup slated for India in 2016.


The tournament was originally slated to take place in Nepal, but due to the earthquake in April it was moved to Malaysia by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
