Police in Mubende district are investigating the circumstances leading to the death of a Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier, whose body was found lying by the roadside.

Police spokesperson for Wamala region Mukasa Phillip identifies the deceased as Corporal Akira Simon, who was attached to Ntungamo barracks, in Kasambya sub county, Mubende district.

Akira's body was discovered on Thursday morning by the roadside in Ntungamo town.

The body lay in a pool of blood and with stones around it.

Mukasa says police was notified by passersby who spotted Akira's body as they made their way to work.

Mukasa says Akira could possibly have been stoned to death by a group of people with whom he had reportedly quarrelled with earlier on Wednesday night.
