Lt. Col. Dula Mawa, has been declared the NRM flagbearer for the district LC 5 seat contest. The soldier has rooted out Rev. Canon Julius Kithaghenda the incumbent district chairman, who was seeking re-election. Lt. Col. Mawa was announced winner on Tuesday night, by the defence minister, Chrispus Kiyonga. According to the minister who is also the NRM district chairperson, Lt. Col. Mawa was leading by over 38,000 votes against the incumbent. Lt. Col. Mawa, has been running the race with three other contestants - Rev. Canon Julius Kithaghenda, Joshua Masereka, the district vice chairperson, and Loice Biira Bwambale the former Kasese district woman member of parliament. He is expected to tighten his belt and be ready to face FDC Christopher Kibanzanga, the current MP for Busongora South constituency. Lt. Col. Mawa became popular in Kasese during the war against the ADF rebels.
