Capt. Denis Omara, the UPDF 3rd Division Public Relations Officer confirms having recovered the cows with the help of the Kenyan military.

Uganda People's Defense Force in collaboration with the Kenyan Military has recovered 18 out of 20 cows that were seized recently by a family from Moroto as compensation for the death of their son. The animals were handed over to UPDF at the Uganda-Kenya border inside Amudat district on Monday evening.

It came just days after Chepukech, the mother of the 12-year-old Lokut Koryau stormed the home of Ichumar Losigirias in the company of Lepukech Lokeris and took off with 20 cows.

They also set the home ablaze, claiming the old man had bewitched the boy to be shot dead.  Koryau was gunned down by unidentified gunman while hunting for edible rats during the festive season in Moroto district.

The incident happened at Naturongole village, Kosiroi parish, Tapac Sub County on Sunday, some 45 kilometers East of Moroto town towards the Uganda-Kenya border.

Capt. Denis Omara, the UPDF 3rd Division Public Relations Officer confirms having recovered the cows with the help of the Kenyan military. He says the mother of the deceased who perpetrated the raid is also in police custody.

Omara says Kenyan authorities are still hunting for the other suspect and the remaining two cows. He is optimistic that once the investigations are complete Chepukech will be produced in court.

The alarming tragedy arose as a result of two fruitless attempts by rustlers to raid cattle from Moroto during the festive season as a result of the heavy UPDF deployment.  As a result, the retreating rustlers shot dead the minor along the way claiming he was the cause of misfortune in the deal.

Earlier, on Christmas day, the armed warriors had launched two consecutive attempts to raid about 100 cows but UPDF foiled their plans.
