In short
Launched in 2011 by West Buganda Diocese, the plaza on Edward Avenue Masaka, the six-storied structure is planned to have a banking complex, shopping mall, rentable office space, a modern hotel and a parking yard. The commercial set up would ideally widen the tax base for the church.
The much awaited construction of Church Plaza in Masaka district is delayed further following the failure by the Anglican Church to identify a suitable contractor for the multibillion shillings project.

But despite collecting all the required funding totaling to Ugx 13 Billion, the planned site remains bare, with no sign of construction works taking place. The money was secured after acquiring a loan from PTA bank and the sale of a church ranch in Ntuusi, Sembabule district last year.
Rt. Rev. Godfrey Makumbi, the Bishop of West Buganda Diocese says the church has so far failed to identify a suitable contractor for the task. He however adds that the search for a contractor is ongoing and the project would soon take shape.
// Cue in: "It was a process…
Cue out: …get credible contractors."//
Church leaders and flock alike are optimistic that the project would ease the financial burden the Anglican Church in Uganda is facing. Reverend Canon Eliabu Nkambo Mugerwa, the Rakai Archdeacon told Uganda Radio Network that the church solely depends on offertory and tithing which has dwindled over the years due to rising poverty levels.
Sarah Namusu, an Anglican Christian has asked the Diocese to speed up the award of contracts to kick start the construction.
Joseph Kizza, another believer faults the church for failing to find alternative sources of income and practically turning church leaders into beggars. He explains that priests have introduced different fundraising strategies such as thanksgiving, construction fee to milk their flock.
