The U.N. human rights chief, is urging the Ugandan authorities to stop the excessive use of force against protesters.
The call comes amid concerns about the number of people that have died and been injured  in over the last  three weeks.

On Sunday, Navi Pillay, UN Human rights director  said she was "appalled" by the repeated ill-treatment of the country's top opposition politician, Kizza Besigye.

Army troops and police fired live bullets at rioting demonstrators Friday, a day after Besigye was arrested.

Besigye is currently in Nairobi and his health according to latest reports has improved, but doctors have advised him to take a rest.
