Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) has been invited to send players to participate in the South African International Championships due to take place December 2-4 in Pretoria.
 
Simon Mugabi, the UBA executive Officer told URN on Thursday that they have received the invitation and are looking for funds to send players for the event sanctioned by the World Badminton Federation (WBF).
 
Mugabi says star player Edwin Ekiring will connect from Holland for the tournament. Ekiring is currently looking for points to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
 
Ugandan players will also have the chance of taking part in the Botswana Open before heading to Pretoria.

Ekiring will have to step up his game in South Africa after he lost in the first round of the Bitburger Open in Saarbrucken, Germany on Wednesday to Indonesia's Andre Kurniawan Tedjono 9-21, 12-21.

Ekiring who recently moved up to top Africa’s rankings still has the Botswana International, South Africa International, Ireland International, Italy International and Turkey International to try and get points that will help him make it to the world top 100 and be able to qualify for the Olympics. He is currently ranked 116 in the world.

Mugabi also confirmed that on the local scene, the Bank of Baroda Championship will end the season.
