A goal in each half by skipper Farouk Miya and another by Ceaser Okhuti were enough to silence the guest side.


Miya who took his tally to three goals in the tournament after he capitalized on a well taken Joseph Ochaya cross and nodded in after 5 minutes before the Malawi defenders had settled.


The Cranes who are targeting a record 14th regional title continued to create several chances with Miya missing another with only goalkeeper to beat after 16 minutes. The defense of Richard Kassaga, Ochaya and Murushid juuko kept the Malawi strikers Schumacher Kuwali and Chiukepo Msowoya at bay.


In the second half Okhuti netted the second after two minutes to silence the Flames who had started aggressively. The Express FC striker took his tournament tally to two goals.


Later coach Milutin ‘Micho' Sredojevic broght the fresh legs of Erisa Sekisambu and Frank kalanda for Okhuti and Isaac Muleme.


The Cranes will now face hosts Ethiopia in the semi final on Thursday. Ethiopia ejected Tanzania 4-3 on penalty shoot outs after a 1-all draw later this afternoon. Going into the semi finals the Cranes have now scored seven goals and conceded two.

On Tuesday arch-rivals Sudan and South Sudan will face-off in another quarter final tie before the defending champions Kenya take on Rwanda in the last game of the day.
