Two teenagers were on Sunday buried alive, after the cave in which they were extracting murrum, came tumbling down on them in Te-dam, Bar-dege division in Gulu Municipality. The deaceased are 20-year-old Steven Olweny and 17-year-old Innocent Ouma. 14-year-old Sam Okello, survived with a broken leg. Ocan Debob, the LC III chairman of Bar-dege division, says a very big cave, created by continuous quarrying in the area, just caved in killing the two on spot. Te-dam murrum mining site is known to have supplied murrum for construction works in Gulu for more than a decade and has since provided employment to unspecified number of youths. Debob said the division executives are going to temporarily close the site, until safety measures are put in place.
