Police in Mbale have arrested two health workers attached to a Christian funded Joy Hospice Hospital in Mbale municipality for allegedly procuring an abortion on a 21-year-old student who later died.

Police in Mbale have arrested two health workers attached to a Christian funded Joy Hospice Hospital in Mbale municipality for allegedly procuring an abortion on a 21-year-old student who later died.
 
The suspects are Jospeh Angiro, a clinical officer at the hospital and Allen Kabalayo, a nurse.
 
Diana Nandawula, the Eastern Regional Police Spokesperson, identified the victim as Betty Matama, who was a student of Mbale Stanmore Institute.
 
She said Matama who was renting a room inSise cell in Namatala Ward allegedly visited the hospital at about 4: 00pm on Tuesday with complaining of sharp stomach pain. She was admitted but died later in the wee hours of Tuesday.
 
She said police postmortem report indicate that she died while trying to abort adding that a cotton pad was found inserted in her private parts.
 
Her body was handed over to her family members for burial at their ancestral home in Pallisa district.
