Two people have committed suicide in separate incidents in Kasese district. They are 20-year-old Luka Thembo and 60-year-old Francis Kabaka, residents of Kahokya and Kathoma villages respectively.

Muhamudu Ajumani, the chairperson Kahokya village in Lake Katwe Sub County says Thembo took rat poison at around 6pm on Boxing Day after he was accused of stealing a portable FM radio receiver.

He says Thembo's body was found lying on the floor of his house. Ajumani says Thembo was prompted to take his own life when residents threatened to report him to Police for being a habitual thief.

According to residents, this was the fifth time Thembo was being accused of theft within a space of one week. In another incident 60-year-old Francis Kabaka, a resident of Kathoma village in Karambi Sub County also decided to take his own life.

Moses Baluku, a Police Officer at Karambi Police post told URN that Francis Kabaka hanged himself in his house.  He however, declined to divulge further details and instead referred URN to his superiors.  However, some sources claim Francis Kabaka could have ended his life due to a domestic feud.

Our reporter couldn't verify this by the time of filing this story.  The two deaths bring to three, the number of suicide cases registered in Kasese within a space of one week.
