Ten employees of Tibet Hima Company in Kasese district are protesting their dismissal from work. They accuse the company of laying them for allegedly speaking to the media about their safety following the death of their work mates.
 
 
Matte Kule, one of the affected employees says that he was shocked when he reported for work and the project manager, Alex Kwatampora, told him his services were no longer needed.  According to Matte, he sought an explanation on why his was being sacked he was told that he spoke to journalists who were investigating the death of their colleagues.
 
 
Matte fell off a tall building in Kilembe mines while painting and was admitted at Kilembe Mines hospital for a month with chest pain and other bodily injuries. However, Alex Kwatampora, Tibet Hima Company project manager has dismissed the allegations of laying off workers for speaking to the media.
 
 
According to Kwatampora, Matte and his colleagues failed the screening test that was conducted after the safety training. He says the screening test was aimed at selecting employees with basic skills to work in mines as one of the ways to minimise future accidents.
