Unidentified people have killed a couple in Serere district and set their bodies a blaze. The murder victims are Joseph Achali and his wife Joyce Apiny, both residents of Akoboi village in Olio Sub County in Serere district. Jimmy Oyuku, the Serere District Police Commander says that the couple was killed in the wee hours of Monday morning. According to Oyuku, Joseph Achali was beaten to death in front of his house while his wife met her death about 15 meters away from their home. The assailants also beat up 18-year-old Betty Akiror, the daughter of the couple.

Mikanori Ebulu, a son of the murder victims told URN that the assailants raided their home, and tied his parents using a barbed wire. He says that the assailants then poured petrol on their hut and set it a blaze. Ebulu says that when they heard their parents making an alarm crying for help, they rushed to see what was happening only to find their hut burning. He says that they struggled to break the door and pulled out their parents alive. However, the assailants who were still moving around the home returned and beat up their father to death.

Ebulu says that they fled with their mother and hid in one of the huts, but the thugs followed them and set it a blaze. It is suspected that Joyce Apiny tried to run away but the assailants caught up with her a few meters from her home and beat her to death before setting her body on fire. However, the children managed to out out the fire. By the time of filing this story, the bodies of the deceased were still laying at the murder the scene. According to Oyuku, Joseph Achali was beaten to death infront of his house while his wife med her death about 15 meters away from their home. Robert Agwau, the LC V councilor representing Olio Sub County says that brutal murder of the couple has left residents in shock. Despite the fact that the cause of the murder is not yet known, is is alleged that the couple was involved in a land row with their relatives.
