Three officials of Apac National Agricultural Advisory Services procurement committee have been suspended for abuse of office.

They are Felix Opio, the NAADS procurement committee chairperson, his secretary Walter Opio and Jenty Opio, a member.

Johnson George Ojok, Apac NAADS Coordinator says that the trio was suspended over the weekend for soliciting bribes from businessmen contracted to supply inputs under the program.

He says that some of the officials were caught running around soliciting for bribery, acting like suppliers in breach of the Public Procurement Disposal Assets Act.

Ojok says that they are carrying out further investigations saying that more implicated officials are likely to be suspended.

Geoffrey Wacara, Apac District Internal Security Officer says that after investigations all officials found guilty will charged in courts of law.

He says that the procurement committee members have been an obstacle to the smooth implementation of NAADS programs across the country because of corruption.

Andrew Leru, Apac Chief Administrative Officer says that the arrest of the affected officials for abuse of office is a big disappointment because they had just disbursed shillings 1.2 billion to over 11 sub counties for NAADS activities.

Leru however says that they will not seat back and watch the officials mess up the NAADS program which is geared at improving household incomes in the district.

URN didn't get a comment from the suspended officials as none of them could be reached.
