Three held over Gang Rape

Kibaale police is holding three men accused of gang raping a 38-year-old woman. The suspects are Edward Twemesigye, Silvano Kato, and Gabriel Byabagambi, all residents of Ijumangabo village in Kisiita Sub County in Kibaale district. The suspects allegedly invited their victim, whose identity has been withheld, to the home of her son in law Edward Twemesigye on Thursday night at around 9:30pm.
 
According to the rape victim, when she arrived at the home, Edward Twemesigye, her son in law wrestled her to the ground and sat on her. He allegedly accused her of pestering him for 6000 shillings that he owed her after she gave him a kilogram of pork on credit. The woman claims that a few minute later, Twemesigye ganged up with Silvano Kato and Gabriel Byabagambi and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her. She explains that she was saved from the sexual assault by residents who responded to her alarm for help. 

Paul Gidudu, the officer in-charge Mwitanzigye outpost says the suspects were arrested on Good Friday following an intense hunt by residents led by police. Gidudu blames the incident on alcohol and drug abuse as a result of the unemployment.Benon Tumwesige, the area LC I chairperson has condemned the incident saying it is a taboo in the African for a man to have sexual intercourse with his mother in law. Tumwesigewants the suspects to face the full wrath of the law to serve as a lesson for other would be offenders.
