Peter Situma, the Kagadi District Disease Surveillance Officer, has confirmed the death, saying the health department is investigating the cause of the deaths.

Three family members have died and three others are hospitalised in Kagadi district after eating the carcass of a piglet. The dead include 12-year-old Deo Sunday, his brother, Joseph Kisembo 26 and their mother, Beatrice Katusabe, all residents of Kisegu village in Kiryanga Sub County.

According to information obtained by URN, both Sunday and Kisembo died on Sunday after developing some complications. Their mother died on Tuesday after being admitted at Kagadi General Hospital. Two other children from the same family have also been hospitalised.

Chrysostom Semate, the head of the family says trouble started after his family members decided to roast and eat a dead piglet. He explains that his young son started complaining of stomach pain before he started vomiting. He died before being rushed to hospital. According to Semate, Kisembo developed the same pains and died shortly after.

Peter Situma, the Kagadi District Disease Surveillance Officer, has confirmed the death, saying the health department is investigating the cause of the deaths. According to Situma, a medical team from Kagadi hospital picked samples from the deceased and will forward them to the government analytical laboratory in Entebbe for investigations.

Situma says it still premature to connect the deaths to swine fever since no case has been reported in the district. He says the two patients in admission are being treated in an isolation center at Kagadi general hospital to avoid mixing with the rest of the patients.
