A survey conducted by Gulu District NGO Forum has discovered that several voters in Gulu and Amuru are not aware of the ongoing voter registration exercise. 13 percent of the 159 respondents interviewed said they were not aware of the ongoing national voter register update exercise and didn't know whether there was an opportunity to do so. The study also indicates that some section of the voters were confusing political party membership registrations with the national voter registration by the Electoral commission. The study attributes this, to the inability of the voters to access the Electoral Commission and lack of continuous Voters Civic Educationse by the commission. The study recommends a massive Civic Education Program by the Electoral Commission to ensure that voters are informed about the electoral processes. Denis Ebong, the Gulu Electoral Commission registrar has declined to comment on the matter saying that he is yet to read the report. He however says that Electoral Commission is designing a comprehensive voter Civic Education program to ensure that voters are adequately informed. David Alira, the secretary general of the People's Progressive Party says that as a result of the study they have started making plans to reach out to the voters. Uganda is preparing to hold general elections early next year.
