Head coach of Ethiopia's St. George, Vas Pinto has warned that they are in Uganda to eliminate KCCA FC from the 2018 CAF Total Champions League.
"We are not here for a party, but for serious business to win and qualify for the group stage of the tournament," Pinto told URN on Thursday evening.
The experienced coach said although they underrated the Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC when they drew goalless in the first leg in Addis Ababa two weeks ago, his players are now determined and ready to win away from home. "We know KCCA FC is dangerous at home, but we are prepared for them," he added.
St. George will however miss the services of their star player Salhadin Said, Sedi Mohammed Keita and Ibrahim Fofona who remained in Ethiopia because of nagging injuries. " It is going to be a tough game because every team wants to make it to the group stage of the Champions League," said St. George's Ugandan goalkeeper Robert Odongkara.
But KCCA FC's head coach Mike Hillary Mutebi has also made it clear they are not going to suffer defeat at their StarTimes Stadium. " I call upon all our fans to come and motivate the team so that we win the game and make history by becoming Uganda's first team to qualify for the Champions League group stage," added Mutebi.
"We have no option but to play well and make the group stage since we failed last year," added the coach. KCCA FC team captain Timothy Awanyi said that they will not underrate the Ethiopian team. "Playing at home will not make us get carried away but we know what our mission is," he added.
With gifted midfielder Saddam Ibrahim Juma out injured, the likes of Muzamir Mutyaba, Derrick Nsibambi, Julius Poloto and Paul Mucuurezi are expected to play important roles if KCCA FC is to win. KCCA FC ejected Madagascar's CNaps FC in the preliminary round.
In-case KCCA FC become the first Ugandan team to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Total Champions League, they will earn UGX1.9 billion.
