The Muslim community in Soroti district is split into two factions over alleged mismanagement of property.
One of the groups is allied to the Kadhi Teso Muslim District, Sheikh Abdul Waisswa Mutwalibu, while another is led by Hassan Suleiman Mohamed, the Imam of Jamia Mosque.

The row stems from the alleged mismanagement of funds accruing from the rent of 19 lock up shops around Jamia Mosque. Imam Hassan Suleiman Mohamed accuses the Kadhi, Sheikh Abdul Waisswa Mutwalibu for lack of transparency in the management of Muslim property.

He claims the Kadhi has been hiding the records of the money accruing from Muslim properties like houses and lock ups. Sheikh Abdul Mutwalibu has confirmed the claims of mismanagement against his administration by a section of the Muslim community.

He however, denies any wrong doing saying all the money generated from the Muslims assets including lock ups is used to finance major activities in the district. Badru Ogwana, a Muslim faithful in the district calls for more transparency among the leaders to avoid suspicion.
