Somalia's President meets football team in Dar es Salaam

The President of troubled Somalia Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed visited his national football team in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Saturday where they were taking part in the Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup. The team however, lost all their three group games and fly out to Mogadishu today.

Somalia’s President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, has met thei Somali national fooball team at the on-going Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup in Dare es Salaam, Tanzania.

The President who arrived for an official state visit on Friday accompanied by his Deputy prime minister and minister for defense Hussein Arab Isse and the Somali police Chief General Sharif Sheikhuna May,  met the team and said he was so happy  the team that has carried the country’s flag for over the past two decades.

“You are really doing a good job for your country and people, because you have been holding up the Somali flag during a very difficult era and still you are carrying it, I encourage you to continue,” the President told the Somalia Football Federation (SFF) Authorities and national team members.

The Somalia team is out of the tournament having lost all the three group games.

The Somali deputy prime minister and minister for defense Hussein Arab Isse said that the participation of international matches by the SFF and its young players was a historical achievement for Somalia since the country has been going through a terrible situation for more than two decades.

Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab thanked the Somali president and his high level delegation for the precious reception of the team. The Somalia team lost all their three matches to Uganda Cranes, Burundi and Zanzibar.
