The Magistrates Court in Masaka has remanded a Rwandan national to Masaka Government Prison on two charges of murder and aggravated robbery. Prosecution alleges that Salatiel Bagamubyago (27), a casual labourer and resident of Kirimya village in Kabonera Sub-county.
Prosecution alleges that Salatiel Bagamubyago (27), a casual labourer and resident of Kirimya village in Kabonera Sub-county - Masaka district murdered a commercial motorcyclist operating in Kirimya town.
It is alleged that Bagamubyago, murdered Vincent Mugunga, a resident of Gayaza village in Masaka and took his motorcycle reg. UEE166P valued at 3,300,000 shillings.
The incident happened on the night of February 2nd 2015 at Gayaza village when residents found Mugunga lying dead in a pool of blood by the road side.
It is said that the accused had hired his victim to take him to Gayaza where he murdered him using a hammer.
A police report attached to the file indicates that Bagamubyago hit Mugunga several times on the head before he disappeared with his motorcycle. Intelligence information led to Bagamubyago's arrest few days later.
A postmortem report indicated that Mugumya had sustained several deep wounds on the head leading to death by excessive blood loss.
Appearing before Aisha Nabukeera, the Grade One Magistrate refused the accused to take plea since the nature of his crime is tried by high court. Nabukeera remanded Bagamubyago until 30th March 2015 to appear in high court.
This is the second foreign national to be jailed at Masaka prison in just three few weeks. Emin Baro was found guilty of indecent assault and attempted defilement and sentenced to five years in February 2015.
