Uganda Rugby Cranes started their 2016 Cape Town 7s campaign with a 24-7 loss to Wales and later suffered another defeat to Scotland on Saturday.

Ramathan Govule gave Uganda the lead after one minute with a try, before in-form Philip Wokorach made no mistake with the conversion to take a 7-0 lead.

But the Wales team returned strongly to score two tries to take a 10-7 first half lead. The much more experienced Wales team  came all out in the second half to score more tries and win 24-7.

"Losing to Wales is not a big deal, but getting the exposure against the big sides is most important," the Uganda Rugby Union  (URU) Development Officer and former national team skipper, Yayiro Kasasa told URN.

Coach Tolbert Onyango's team returned after lunch and lost 38-7 to Scotland. Phillip Wokorach scored Uganda's only try. The Rugby Cranes will now battle Samoa in the last group game later.

In an earlier game played Scotland beat Samoa 29-19 in another Pool C game. Fiji also managed a 33-7 win over Japan, USA shocked Australia 19-0, while South Africa who won the Dubai 7s title last weekend stopped Russia 41-0.
