A proposal seeking to create a new sub county in Kasese district has sparked off a bitter row between the councilors and the district leaders. The row stems from a council resolution by councilors in Kahokya Sub County, seeking to create Kahokya sub-county. The councilors in their September 21st meeting agreed that the new sub-county would be curved out of Lake Katwe sub-county, in Busongora County, in Kasese district. Under the resolution, four parishes in Lake Katwe sub-county would be merged to form the new Kahokya sub-county. The motion to create a new sub - county was moved by Juliet Rukondo, the Kabirizi parish councilor. She argued that the creation of Kahokya sub-county would boost service delievery to the local residents. But the Lake Katwe councilors have rejected the proposal outright and have petitioned the district speaker challenging the resolution. The petitioners led by Selestine Siwako, the sub-county chairman, accused Rukondo of raising an unpopular motion. Adding that she didn't follow the rightful procedures in moving the proposal. The councilors have also argued that the proposed boundaries of the new sub-county are based on ethnic lines with an intention of separating Basongora from Bakonzo. Rukundo has denied any ill motive, behind her proposal. She maintains that her decision is bent on trying to draw people closer to the services.
