Paul Kasumba, the acting UNRA Engineer in charge of Busoga region blames the flooding on blocked drainages channels due to illegal constructions.

Traffic is paralysed along several roads in Kamuli, Buyende, Kaliro, Jinja and Iganga districts due to flash floods. The floods were triggered by heavy rains that have been pounding parts of Busoga region over the past two weeks. The floods have submerged some sections of the roads making them unmotorable.

Some of the affected sections of the roads are found at Walumbe and Lumbuye swamps along Jinja - Iganga highway, Kasambira and Magamaga on Jinja - Kamuli highway and Namwendwa along Kamuli - Kaliro road. As a result of the flooding connecting between Kamuli, Jinja and Kamuli, Kaliro districts on some roads have become difficult.

Travelers have resorted to using the longer Kayunga-Buyende, Luuka - Kamuli and Iganga- Mayuge routes to connect to Jinja town, Kamuli, Buyende and Kaliro districts. Some motorists plying the Jinja road branch off at Kakira center in Kakira Sub County to Mayuge and then connect to Iganga.  Juma Waita, a businessman says they are grappling with high transport costs, which is eating into their profits.
