The Kyazanga Rural councillor for People With Disabilities (PWDs) who was arrested for raping and defiling a ten-year-old pupil last week has been denied police bond.

Jackson Tulyakiira (40) was arrested and detained at Kyazanga Police Station on Thursday last week following the incident.

It is said that Tulyakiira grabbed the girl on her way to Buyindi Primary school at around 10am and took her in the bush where he defiled her.

Residents said that the girl’s screams attracted their attention and bystanders who responded to her pleas for help found Tulyakiira in the act.

As a result, furious residents pounced on Tulyakiira and beat him before the anti-riot police arrived to save his life.

However, Tulyakiira has since denied the accusations saying he’s innocent. His pleas to be granted police bond have been turned down.

ASP Paul Wataka, the Lwengo District Police Commander, explains that they cannot offer him bond at this time because the case is very sensitive and investigations are still proceeding.

Police is also concerned for Tulyakiira's safety as some residents have vowed to lynch him if he is released.

Police opened a case file no.CRB 339/13 against Tulyakiira and he’s waiting to appear in court any time.

Tulyakiira remains in custody at Kyazanga police station under tight security.
