Arua Municipality Demolishes Illegal Structures

Arua Municipality has demolished illegal structures along Alfra Street to pave way for the road expansion works. On Wednesday afternoon, a team from Arua Municipal engineering department erased down the perimeter walls and reception areas of California hotel, Luis Hotel and Hotel Delambiance.
 
 
The affected structures were illegally built in the road reserve along Alfra Street. Godfrey Aluonzi, the Engineer Arua Municipality told URN that they had no option but to raze down the illegal structures to allow the road works to go on as planned.
 
 
According to Aluonzi, the owners of the affected structures ignored directives from the municipality not to construct any structures in the road reserve. Earlier on, the property owners had protested the ongoing works before they are compensated.
 

Nasur Waiga Yusuf, the proprietor of Luis Hotel whose wall fence was demolished conceded defeat. He told URN that he wasn't aware that his wall fence was in the road reserve, adding that the road expansion will come with several benefits to residents. According to Aluonzi, the road works will cost Shillings 600 million.
