URN has established that Oguttu and Amuriat wrote to the SID, saying they cant appear for interrogation because their lawyers are not available. They instead requested to appear on Tuesday when their lawyers are available, which was granted.

Several Forum for Democratic Change-FDC officials who were expected to appear before the Police Special Investigations Division (SID) for interrogations in relation to the swearing in of Dr. Kizza Besigye, their former party presidential candidate were no show.

They include Wafula Oguttu, the Outgoing Leader of the Opposition of parliament, FDC party National chairperson Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, the vice chairperson in charge of Kampala, Joyce Sebugwawo, Ingrid Turinawe, the women League Chairperson, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the former Ngora County MP and his Busia Municipality counterpart, Kevina Nataka.

The officials were expected to appear before Mark Paul Odong, acting Deputy Director Special Investigations Division, according to police summons issued on May 14th. According to the letter, the officials are required to explain the circumstances under, which they attended and witnessed Besigye taking the unlawful oath to undertake and execute the functions and duties of the office of the president of the Republic of Uganda.

Besigye was reportedly sworn in on May 11th after he beat tight police surveillance and made his way downtown Kampala. A video of the purported swearing in ceremony went viral minutes after it was released on social media. Immediately, when Besigye showed up on the streets he was picked and rushed to Nalufenya police station in Jinja, before he was airlifted to Moroto district.

On Friday, he appeared before Moroto Chief Magistrate on charges of treason. Following the incident, Police summoned FDC party officials to explain circumstances surrounding Besigye's swearing. However, this morning, Ibrahim Semujju Nganda, the FDC party spokesperson told journalists that police has no basis for summoning them since the video was already tendered by police as evidence against them.

He criticised police for besieging their party headquarters and homes.
