Butaleja police have recovered the torso of a 10-year-old unidentified boy believed to have been a victim of a ritual murder. The torso was found lying on Tuesday morning in a pool of blood at Dumanghale Rock near Mpologoma swamp in Budumba Sub County. Vincent Otyeng, the Officer in charge Criminal Investigations Butaleja Central Police Station says the torso was discovered by some residents on their way to the garden, who immediately notified police.

He says the head and private parts of the victim were missing. He says they are treating the case as a ritual murder. Otyeng says that preliminary investigations show that the body was dumped last night by unidentified people driving in two double cabin pickups and a premio vehicle. He appeals to whoever has a missing child to go to Busolwe hospital mortuary to identify the victim.

Otyeng says they areinvestigating the incident, the first of its kind in the district. A recent report by UNICEF on child sacrifice showed an increased demand of body parts of minors for ritual sacrifice. According to the report, some of the parts like the sexual organs are harvested when the victims are alive because of the superstitious practices. Several children have been killed in ritual murders in Uganda in the past years.
