New security measures are being instituted to curb the rampant violent crime in Hoima municipality.

Hoima town has since mid last month been a scene of criminal acts of murder, barglary, waylaying and hacking of residents.

These have left several people killed, others critically injured and property taken.

The town suburbs such as Kiryatete are the leading criminal spots. Area leaders say at least a criminal incident is recorded in Kiryatete everyday.

In the latest incident, Yabezi Muhumuza, the Busiisi Division finance officer was on Wednesday night hacked by yet unknown assailants.

The assailants invaded Muhumuza’s home in Kiryatete West at around 3am hacking him several times on the head.

On Thursday, the victim was underwent surgery at Hoima regional referral hospital.

Hoima district police Commander, Augustine Kasangaki, says other than scaling up their routine night patrols, other security measures are being instituted.

The DPC says among other measures, village Chairpersons have been directed to cause regular security meetings and register residents to take record of the visitors.

Although police say the matter is still under investigation, Kasangaki explains they already have clues which would lead to the arrest of the criminals.

In her security report to the district council on Wednesday, Hoima Resident District Commissioner, Jean Kaliba said the rampant criminal acts are a serious concern to the security committee in the district.

Kaliba called on council members to make follow ups to ensure the new security measures are strictly adhered to in their areas of jurisdiction.
