Police Investigate Murder of Lwengo Student

Police in Lwengo are investigating the death of a 17 year old girl who was allegedly raped before being murdered. Winnie Musiimenta, a senior two student of Busibo Senior Secondary School was on Tuesday morning found murdered at Lwensambya Village, Katuulo Parish in Kyazanga Sub County.

Winnie Musiimenta, a senior two student of Busibo Senior Secondary School was on Tuesday morning found murdered at Lwensambya Village, Katuulo Parish in Kyazanga Sub County.

According to Lt. John Katuuro Ssendege attached to Lwengo District Reserve Force, a 42-year-old man identified as Hamidu  Habimana, way laid reportedly the deceased on her way to school and raped her before hitting her on the head with a stone which killed her.

Ssendege says that an angry mob pursued Habimana and stoned him to death before police reached the scene.

Noah Sserunjogi, the southern region police spokesman confirmed the incident adding that that by the time Police reached the scene angry residents had already killed Habimana. He said killing of suspects hinders investigations.

Police took the two bodies   to Kyazanga Health Centre IV for postmortems as investigations into the murder continue.
 
This comes just hours after another student and a herdsman were reportedly killed in Nakasongola district.
Steven Kato, a senior six student of Kitangaala Secondary School, was murdered on Tuesday morning, at Kyeyindula village in Kakooge Sub County in Nakasongola district.
 
Kato’s attackers also murdered a herdsman identified as Fred Kyeyune.
 
Sam Mulwana, a local in the area says that the bodies were first sighted by a group of primary school children.

Nakasongola District Police Commander, Felix Obong, says preliminary evidence shows that the assailants may have initially intended to murder the herdsman.

The student was killed because he emerged from the opposite direction and saw the attackers. The motive of the killers is not yet known.

The bodies were by Tuesday evening at Nakasongola health center where they were taken for an autopsy.
