Rioters against the hiked fuel prices in the country who lit tyres in Namulesa and Mafubira trading centers have paralyzed traffic along Jinja Kamuli road.

The two trading centers are located between three and four kilometers respectively from Jinja town, along Jinja the main road connecting the two old neighboring districts in Busoga sub region.

Local residents here claim they set fire to provoke police to intervene and provide them with transport to Jinja town after waiting for hours in vain.

However, when the heavily deployed police patrolling Jinja and the surrounding areas rushed to the scenes they all scattered in disarray.

Police put out the fire as the shouting crowd watched.

But sources at Jinja Tax Park told our reporter on conditions of anonymity that Drivers of Kamuli stage had convened a secret meeting and vowed to show their solidarity to the Walk to Work protest by parking all their vehicles today.

According to Stanley Gabula, from Kamuli, drivers along Jinja Kamuli road have used the opportunity of the walk to work protest campaign to protest the poor conditions of the road.

In Bugembe town council, rowdy Boda boda cyclists, joined by other members of the public blocked Jinja- Iganga Highway with logs and stones.

But the anti riot police pelted teargas canisters at them and removed the blockade.
The road also connects Uganda to the neighboring Kenya and Tanzania.

No arrest was made but police presence remains high.
