Police has been deployed in Kyakuterekera B village, Mwitanzigye, Kisiita sub county, Kibaale to prevent attacks by relatives of man killed in what seems to be a conflict over a lover.

The 28 year old man, Sunday Bukenya was killed by a traditional speer thrown by a village-mate aged 25, Ronald Maganda ‘Musoga'  on Wednesday morning.

Maganda had long suspected Bukenya of courting a woman he was already in a relationship with.

Bukenya was found bleeding profusely with an open stomach.  He was rushed to Hoima regional referral hospital by relatives and neighbours but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Irate relatives and friends then started hunting for Maganda who had gone on the run.

The mob ended up at the homestead of Maganda's father identified as James Simunyu (52), Simiyu fled for his life.

The mob destroyed Simunyu's property burning down five houses, one vehicle, destroyed two acres of banana plantation and vandalized other assets worth millions of shillings.

Further destruction was only averted with the arrival of police who tried to calm down the baying mob.

Bukenya's relatives and friends vowed more attacks unless the family was compensated.

The relatives demanded that the father of the suspect compensate the family of the deceased with one cow, one acre of land and a piece of plot in Mwitanzigye trading centre where the deceased will be buried.

John Ojokuna Eratu, the Kibaale district police commander, confirms the incident and says he has deployed officers to ensure there are no reprisal attacks.
