Police Deploy As Politicians Move To Oust Kabale Town Clerk

Police deploys heavily at Kabale Municipal head quarters to block a plan to oust the municipal town clerk Augustine Rukiika Bujara.

The plan was hatched by political leaders in the district who accuse the town clerk of corruption, arrogance and sabotaging development in the municipality. The leaders include Kabale Municipality mayor Dr. Pius Ruhemurana, Councilors and chairpersons of Divisions in the Municipality.

In November last year, the town clerk was arrested by police for misallocating UGX 283 million meant for road construction in the Municipality.  He is also accused of selling off Kabale a municipal council plot located at Jackson road in Kabale municipality without the knowledge of council and diverting a bank loan worth 300million which was expected to be used in the construction of the main council building.

Bujara  was however released on bond after three days in detention. he returned to office thereafter.

But Last month all the political Leaders in Kabale Municipality closed their offices and wrote to the local government ministry saying they could no longer work with the embattled Town clerk.

Kigezi regional Police commander Elly Maate told Uganda Radio network confirms the heavy deployment and advises political leaders behind the move to wait until investigations into the matter are complete. He says that forcing the town clerk out of office may jeopardize ongoing investigations.

Augustine Rukiika Bujara the Kabale Municipality embattled town clerk defended the deployment saying he needed protection from the group led by the Mayor Dr. Pius Ruhemurana whom he accuses of hiring hooligans to humiliate him.

He advises that his tormentors should follow the laid down procedure of kicking a civil servant out of office other than resorting to violent and unlawful means.

Sentaro Byamugisha the central Division chairperson says that the town clerk should step aside until he is cleared of corruption charges lodged against him. He however denies allegations that they have hired hooligans to attack the town clerk.
