A cadet officer who was yet to complete his training at Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi District was last night struck by lightning.

Moris Orach was sleeping in the police iron make shifts that are used to house the trainees when he was struck by lightning.

A fellow trainee at the training school told URN that Orach had just returned from his night lectures and got on his bed when lightning struck.

"We immediately called for help from administration for Orach to be rushed to hospital. He left when he was badly off and died on the way," says the trainee.

According to the police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the Kabalye Police Training School dormitories have lightning conductors and it remains unknown why they were unable to prevent the strike.

"We have lightening conductors and they should have prevented this. The trainee was using his earphones and maybe that could have increased the risk," Enanga told URN.

He adds, "We have already contacted the family and we shall be handling the rest of the issues."

Orach was one of the 500 cadet trainings who began training in April 2015 and had already completed the mandatory 9 months training awaiting pass out.

During the Election and for his field training, Orach was attached to Jinja Police Station.
