Besigye was due to attend a victory party for the opposition organized by the FDC youth wing at Nakivubo Settlement Primary School in Kampala. The activity is a parallel event in celebration organized to counter the National Resistance Movement NRM party, whose supporters are converging at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Former forum for Democratic Change - FDC party presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has been blocked from leaving his home in Kasangati this morning.

Besigye was due to attend a victory party for the opposition organized by the FDC youth wing at Nakivubo Settlement Primary School in Kampala. The activity is a parallel event  organized to counter the National Resistance Movement - NRM party celebrations at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

NRM party Secretary General Justine Lumumba Kasule says NRM is celebrating a double victory covering the outcome of the general election which the party's presidential candidate won with 60.7 percent of the vote and the Supreme Court verdict which validated the re-election of Yoweri Museveni for another five year presidential term.

But the opposition believes that the NRM celebration is in vain. FDC presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye says his victory was snatched by the Electoral Commission and handed to Yoweri Museveni.

In the same spirit, FDC declared that they will hold a parallel celebration for their candidate's victory.

But Police today deployed heavily at Besigye's home and around Kasangati trading centre in what supporters say is another attempt to block their leader from attending the celebrations.  This would be the second time Besigye is attempting to enter Kampala since the withdrawal of police officers from his home on April 2.

The last attempt was on Tuesday when he was arrested after disagreeing on a route with police officers who wanted him to use Yusuf Lule road as opposed to the busy Wandegeya-Bombo road- Kampala route. He was later released.

By the time of filing this report, Police had towed Besigye's vehicle registration number UAW 616W to Kasangati. Besigye was not in the car at the time.
