Hundreds of Christians in Gulu district this morning converged at St. Joseph's Cathedral parish to commemorate Good Friday.

The ecumenical event was presided over by Archbishop John Baptist Odama of Gulu Archdiocese, the Anglican Bishop of Northern Uganda Diocese Johnson Gakumba and the Leader of Orthodox Church in Gulu, Father Julius Orach.

In his opening statement, Archbishop Odama who is also the chairperson of Acholi Religious Leaders Peace Initiative asked the faithful to pray for those in deep troubles around the world.

"Jesus is calling us to carry our cross and follow him. He is saying save the world of the so much troubles. So many evils. Let's petition God for those in troubles in South Sudan and in refugee camps around the world that peace may prevail," he said.

Thrilling display animating the arrest, trial and conviction of Jesus Christ before King Herod, Pontius Pilate and the High Priest was showcased.

The scene was picked up from the Last Supper or Passover meal in which Jesus predicted with precision that Apostle Peter would deny knowledge of him three times before a rooster crows.

According to the four Canonical Gospels, Jesus also prophesied that one of the 12 Disciples would betray him for thirty pieces of Silver (Luke 23: 1-31). The disciple happened to be Judas Iscariot with whom he had shared the meal of the Last Supper.
