Patients Overwhelm Masaka Medical Camp

Patients have overwhelmed the free Medical Camp at Kyannamukaaka Health Center IV in Masaka district. 
 

Thousands of residents with different sorts of ailments have been flocking the medical camp since Monday to benefit from the specialised medical services being offered by a team of 60 health workers pitching camp in the area.


The camp is jointly supported by Bulamu Healthcare International, Uganda Cancer Institute and the Vice President and Bukoto Central Member of Parliament, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

 
Rose Kateeba, the one leading the Optical unit, says they have since worked on more than 800 patients with different eyesight problems including cataract, Glaucoma and Allergies among others. 



Kateeba says they have been awed by the mass turn-up at the unit, saying most of the patients presented with advanced symptoms as a result of overstaying with infections.

Jannat Namubiru, one of those who were treated for eyesight problems, says she had failed to secure the required treatment almost over a year after being diagnosed at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.

Immaculate Tumusiime in the Dental unit also told URN on Saturday that they have attended to 940 patients with different complications associated with the mouth and teeth. 


She says that such numbers are an indicator of the existing demand of healthcare services in the communities.

Xavier Ssenkungu, the head of the Dental Unit at Kyannamukaaka Health Centre IV, says the facilities in the district lack the required capacities to provide services beyond the basic dental treatment.

 
He explains majority of the referred patients end up staying with the illnesses at their homes waiting to tap from opportunities in free health camps.
