Vetting of New Ambassadors Underway at Parliament

The committee chaired by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga will vet a total of 37 appointees today. Among them is Brig Ronnie Balya, the former Director General of the Internal Security Organisation ISO who was appointed Ugandas ambassador to Juba and former Kasese Municipality MP James Mbahimba.

Vetting of newly appointed ambassadors and Minister is underway at parliament.  The vetting by the appointments committee started at 10:30 am with Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, the former Commander of Defence Forces who is awaiting approval for the position of state minister for works.

Katumba was appointed to the position by president Yoweri Museveni following a reshuffle in the Uganda Peoples Defence Force-UPDF, which saw him replaced with Gen David Muhoozi.

Waiting in the VIP lounge at Parliament is Dr Crispus Kiyonga, Uganda's ambassador designate to Beijing China, Barbara Nekesa Oundo- the Ambassador designate to South Africa, and Phoebe Otaala, the ambassador to Nairobi-Kenya.

The committee chaired by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga will vet a total of 12 appointees today.  Among them is Brig Ronnie Balya, the former Director General of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) who was appointed Uganda's ambassador to Juba, former Kasese Municipality MP James Mbahimba, and former legislators Rebecca Otengo Amuge, Ruth Aceng and Ocula Nyeko Michael.

Also to be vetted is former Democratic Party (DP) member Mohammed Kezaala.
