There was anxiety and panic in some parts of Kampala as UPDF Sukhoi jets hovered over the skies of Kampala this afternoon. The noisy jets made several maneuvers in the city sky drawing anxiety among onlookers.

Some city residents suspected that the jets could have been released to intimidate them against participating in the defiance campaign announced by the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party to push for an independent audit of the presidential election results.

Charles Anguyo, a businessman in Arua Park in Kampala Central Division wondered why the army had decided to release the jets during the stalemate with FDC party supporters.

He said the move could have been intended to scare away members of the public from participating in the banned FDC defiance campaign.  Boniface Haruna, another resident wondered why UPDF chose to fly the jets at the time when police was battling FDC party members involved in the defiance campaign.
