Oyam LC1 Chairperson Detained for Arson

Four people including an  LC 1 chairperson in Oyam district, have been arrested for arson and malicious damage of properties, that left 9 people homeless on Thursday.

Bonney Oyuku, the area LC1 is accused of abetting the crime, because he knew about the crime but did nothing to prevent it from happening.

The other suspects are Beatrice Oyuru, Omara Olake, and Okotson Robert – a retired UPDF soldier blamed for organizing and spear heading the crime.

The suspects allegedly committed the offence in Bar Nyalo Village in Agwar Parish.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident in the village  told Police on Thursday that Okotson led a group of 28 youths to vandalize property and burn houses in the home of  Isaac Oluba.

He said the same group returned to the village on June 22nd and set ablaze two huts and stole 20 Chicken and goats.

On Friday morning, reports from the village indicated that  part of the group members still at large, held a secret meeting on Thursday night and issued a warned the people about a revenge attack.

Stephen Onencan, the Oyam district Police Commander, said the suspects are still being held at Oyam police station pending police investigations.
