The incident has neither been been reported to local authorities nor Police.

Moses Okello, the Nwoya district police Commander says that most poachers don’t report such incidents to police for fear of retribution. He however says that they will pick interest in the case and deploy a guard at Lacor Hospital to ensure that the gun shot victim faces the law if he recovers. Walter Odokorot, the Uganda Wildlife Authority Liaison Officer for Para area feigned ignorance of the shooting.

But a relative who is nursing the victim at Lacor Hospital, who declined to reveal her name for fear of retribution, told URN that the victim who hails from Oyam had gone to visit his in-laws in Langel village in Koch-goma Sub-county when the incident happened.  She explains that the victim was shot when he went hunting in the park in the company of Ongom Pa’lakong.

Residents of Nwoya have been in a long feud with Uganda Wildlife Authority over loss of what they called their cradle land. More than 1000 residents from Lakang are facing  eviction by the park authorities.
