NRM Sweeps Kasese Municipality Mayoral, Municipal Council Seats

Godfrey Kabyanga Baluku Kiime, of the NRM party has been declared winner of the Kasese municipality mayoral seat. Ahmed Musisi Nadduli, the Kasese district returning officer, declared Kabyanga winner at Midnight. He walked to victory after polling more than 62% of the total votes cast. FDCs Nelson Sunday Ndungo, Kabyanga's sole challenger, trailed with 6,093 votes representing 37.88% of the total votes cast. Both Kabyanga and Ndungo are ministers in the Rwenzururu kingdom. kabyanga is the minister for finance and economic planning and development whereas Ndungo is the minister for lands. Kabyanga was also a spokesperson of the kingdom, before it was recognized and has been working with Kilembe mines limited Kasese as a procurement officer. The NRM also won thirty-two out of thirty eight seats in the Municipal council and rival party FDC managed to pass only two councilors. The youth and the special interest groups' councilors who are yet to be elected will fill the remaining four seats. Most of the FDC supporters boycotted the polls claiming that it was of no value to participate in a rigged election. The voter turn up was very low with only about seventeen thousand out of seventy thousand voters cast their ballot across the nearly one year-old municipality.
