Northern Karamoja Re-integrated to 3rd Division

Three districts of Northern Karamoja have been re-integrated into 3rd Infantry Division headquartered in Moroto district. 

Abim, Kotido and Kaabong districts have been under the command 5th Division headquartered in Gulu district until recently when the UPDF top management decided otherwise. 

The he 3rd Division Commander, Brig. Richard Otto says the trio was initially under 3rd Division Command before they were curved to fifth division. He recalls the three districts were temporarily taken to fifth division for reinforcement during disarmament programme in Karamoja.

Brig. Otto adds that the re-integration of Northern Karamoja, also known as Kidepo came in at the peak of cattle thefts in Karamoja. Cattle thefts that degenerated into raids in Karamoja started in July this year but intensified in October.

3rd Infantry Division Command starts from Tororo district through Bugishu, Sebei, Teso and Karamoja sub regions. It is currently covering 33 districts.
