A new athletics club has been launched in Kabale district to encourage the growth of young sports talent. Mountain Gorilla Club has registered 20 athletes from around the district to undergo rigorous high-altitude training. The athletes, most who are from secondary schools in Kabale, will be able to compete against each other and to use the facilities at the club all year round in order to prepare for national and international meets. Athletes in Kabale have not had a regular training or competition schedule in the past. Most of them only actively prepare just before the post-primary school sports tournaments and rarely have an opportunity to compete at a national forum. Sostine Turyatunga and Abrose Turinawe are two of the new Mountain Gorilla athletes. They are confident that regular training and competition in a high altitude are will prepare them adequately and will improve their skill. They hope to provide adequate competition to Uganda's current athletics champions like Boniface Kiprop and Dorcus Inzikuru. //Cue in: iWe only train #i Cue out: i# greatest runner.i// Davis Kadoyi, coach of Mountain Gorilla Athletics Club, says the club is looking for sponsors to work with Kigezi Sports Academy to support the athletes.
