Students of Namasagali College in Kamuli have staged a demonstration protesting against poor sanitation, insufficient food and teacher absenteeism at school. The students went on rampage this morning destroying some school property.

The student smashed windows of some classes and dormitories. The situation brought to normalcy at about 11am after Musa Nabendeh, the Kamuli District Police Commander, rushed to the school and pleaded with the students to halt the riots.

Jonathan Mulawa, head teacher Namasagali College admits that some of the concerns raised by the students are genuine. On the issue of insufficient meals, Mulawa says that they are finding it difficult estimate the exact amount of food for the students since many of them are still reporting for the second term.

He advises the students to remain calm as the administration addresses their concerns since they are understandable. Joseph Musoke, Kamuli District Education Officer also advises the students to report their problems instead of resorting to violence.

Musoke has also warned teachers against part timing in the school saying that they paid as full time teachers. He warns to deal with teachers who will fail to heed to the warning.
