Museveni Pledges UGX 180 Million to Kasese Traders

President Museveni has pledged 187 million shillings for the renovation of Mawa Market in Kasese town.

The commitment was announced on Saturday by the Chief Coordinator Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) Gen Salim Saleh while meeting traders at Mawa market in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.

Mawa market is the second biggest market after Kasese main market. It hosts more than 3,000 and 700 traders on market days and other days respectively according to statistics at the market.
The market, however, is very dusty during the hot season and filled with mud in the rainy season.

Gen Saleh told the traders that he had talked to the President about the plight of the traders.

He says that the President accepted to release 187 million shillings to immediately work on paving the ground.

According to the Kasese municipality investment plan that was recently passed by the municipal council, Mawa market has been allotted two billion shillings for upgrading.

Kasese municipality Member of Parliament Robert Centenary thanked the president for the intervention and pledged to work with him in improving the livelihood of the people although they subscribe to different political parties.

Catherine Biira, a tomato a trader at Mawa market also hailed the president for heeding to the cry of the traders.

Saleh also said that President Museveni plans giving out 45 motorcycles to the Kasese Municipality Boda Boda Riders Association SACCO.

Saleh urged the motorcyclists to be disciplined and adopt a saving culture to enable them leader better lives. He cautioned the Sacco managers against poor accountability.

Wilson Isebayanda the general secretary of the Kasese Municipality Boda Boda Riders Association said the motorcycles come as a relief to their members who have been struggling to get motorcycles. He says the association has only given out 55 motorcycles yet the association has more than 200 members.
