Opposition Forum for Democratic Party (FDC) presidential contender Major General Mugisha Muntu says his party will institute a transparent oil policy to ensure that all Ugandans are aware of the transactions in the oil sector.

Muntu was speaking to journalists in Masindi shortly after meeting party delegates on Monday evening. The former army commander who is also FDC’s secretary for mobilization says the NRM government has kept oil transactions a secret in that little is known about its dealings with the oil exploration companies.

He says unlike NRM, the FDC government will institute a clear policy to enable transparency in the oil sector once they assume leadership of this country. The FDC party presidential aspirant says even if they are not in leadership, as the opposition they will continue to pressure government to ensure there is transparency in the oil sector through parliament.

Opposition and civil society organizations have always criticized government for the secrecy around oil transactions that have denied the public vital information.

On claims that the former army commander could be a spy in the opposition party, Muntu dismissed the claims as unfair and not grounded in reality.
